JUTLANDIA - 999 Days of Service in the Korean War

This is a cinematic documentary co-produced over two years by Arirang TV and the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), Denmark's largest broadcast station and the original member of the European Broadcasting Union.

"Jutlandia-999 Days of Service in the Korean War" has combined two different story-telling methods – dramatized film and documentary-to show how the doctors and nurses aboard the Danish hospital ship Jutlandia braved the horrors of war to save the lives of not only wounded U.N. soldiers but also Korean civilians.

The Jutlandia embarked on its humanitarian mission from the Langelinie Pier in Copenhagen, Denmark, on January 23, 1951 and saved roughly 20,000 lives before returning home on October 16, 1953.

In order to reenact the experiences on the Jutlandia 60 years ago, the production team spent about a year tracking the whereabouts of the medical staff and patients of the Jutlandia. Their memories of those dramatic events still vivid in their minds were then cinematically adapted for the documentary. With the scenes shot in Denmark, Korea and the United States, the documentary successfully captured the essence of humanitarian spirit.

The doctors and nurses of the Jutlandia volunteered to serve in a war that could have jeopardized their lives. The wounded soldiers and civilian patients who survived the war demonstrate the power of noble humanism and why we need to keep peace. These values still resonate deep in our hearts because the world is still embroiled in disputes and conflicts even today, 60 years after the Korean War.
