21st Century Noah's Ark Goes to the Zoo

Korean zoos have a history of 100 years. Now, they are fast changing into eco zoos whose purpose is not only to entertain people but also to protect animals. We take a look at the efforts of Korean zoos, their similarities with Thai zoos, their role in education and the message of co-existence between mankind and animals.

In harmony with nature - Eco-Zoo Project
One zoo in Seoul launched the "Eco-Zoo" project in 2003 to provide the animals with a natural habitat, ideal care and food. A zoo where animals are happy! Korean zoos make brilliant, scientific changes as they strive to help humans and animals live in harmony.

Efforts to restore and preserve animal species - Animal Restoration Center
There are diverse ways to preserve animal species. One method integrates the use of hormones excreted during the mating season. This is how four Himalayan Tahrs successfully gave birth in 2009. One of the widely used methods these days is in-vitro fertilization called "direct sperm injection." It is expected to create dramatic changes in protecting endangered animal species.

Thai zoos in 2011
Eco-zoos in Thailand occupy a large portion of the jungles and boast advanced species preservation technology. Thanks to the support of the Thai government and special care provided by one of the zoos, a baby giant panda was born there. We take a look at Thai zoos and their achievements.

Siberian tigers and moon bears come to Korea
A zoo in Korea builds a house for Siberian tigers, making valuable contributions to species preservation and restoration research. At another zoo, a moon bear gives birth to a cub and is released in the wilderness of Jiri Mtn. The ultimate goal of the zoo is not to confine animals forever but to return them to the wild.
