Dorang, the Origin of the River

Dorang are small, narrow streams that flow into a village. They were a common sight in the past, bringing water to the fields and paddies while also providing places for the people to gather and do their laundry while their children played in the water.
But with the advances of modern technology and indoor plumbing, many turned their backs on the life-giving dorang, covering them up with concrete or even using them as sewage disposal pipes.
The way of life that once relied on harmony with nature was severed, the living things that relied on the dorang ecosystem were left without a home. Rivers downstream slowly dried up and died.
But in the village of Samjinae, located at the head of the Yeongsanggang River, dorang still run through the streets.
The people of the village removed the concrete covering up their dorang, and the return of clear water to the village also marked the return of the once-missing marsh clams and snails.
Take a look into the life of Samjinae and its people, their paths following the flow of these narrow brooks as they live side by side with nature, and rediscover the once-forgotten value of dorang.
