Green Signals to Save Cities
Chapter 1.Greenery in City Centers (Green Walls, Green Roofs, Urban Forests)

Greening is a worldwide trend. Planting vegetation on rooftops or walls can save energy costs by up to 50%. One method is installing green curtains made up of climbing plants so that they drape over the building exterior. Green curtains lower the temperatures inside the building and increase green urban spaces. Unban forests are an expanded version of these gardening methods. Check out how Suwon’s urban forest project is making a difference in the city environment.

Chapter 2.The power of urban greening seen from the garden city of Singapore

Singapore has gone beyond creating green oases and turned the entire city into a huge garden. Singapore’s Garden City initiative was the best greening strategy for the second smallest state in Asia. As part of the project, Singapore is creating a network of multipurpose green pathways known as Park Connectors to link all major parks, gardens, and open spaces. The crowning achievement in the city-state’s urban greening policy is the Gardens by the Bay, a cluster of parks that was born out of a long-term vision to connect the sea and the sky, the land and water and build Garden City. Singapore’s greening policy not only ensures enough green space for its residents, but also boosts the tourism industry. Singapore’s urban greening programs show us what’s in store for our future cities.

Chapter 3.Nature's miracles in city centers

The rooftop garden at Government Complex Sejong is a fine example of the worldwide urban greening trend. It was recognized as the world’s largest rooftop garden by Guinness World Records. The massive garden lowers cooling and heating costs and revives the botanical ecosystem. Urban residents find psychological and physical well-being in these natural surroundings and release stress by engaging in community outdoor activities. Humans need nature to survive. Cities that have sacrificed greenery to grow have been reborn through the green. Such transformations demonstrate the future of cities where humans will coexist with nature in harmony.
