Those of us living in this chaotic time ask the sages this question – Is this the way we should be living? Meeting historical figures over time and space gives us a chance to find little-known knowledge, joy, and even inspiration in the era of globalization.
If Goethe walked the Philosophers' Way in Heidelberg, Germany, Toegye Yi Hwang walked Yedeongil in Andong. He took this path on his way to Cheongnyangsan Mountain to study under his uncle. Master Toegye loved the mountain so much that he even called himself “The Man of Cheongnyangsan Mountain.” The true cultural legacy is his seonbi spirit, which called for the understanding of and respect for other human beings. We walk the same road that Master Toegye took so many centuries ago and learn about the spirit of seonbi.
