This Thematic Session by the Ministry of Environment themed “Circular Economy Measures towards a Zero Waste Society” will present and share the latest efforts, actions, and innovations in circular economy taking place in different countries and sectors, with a special focus on zero waste. It will share innovative models like sustainable industrial clusters that play a critical and cross-sectoral role in achieving circularity and a net zero future. The presentations and dialogue with representatives of government, industry, and civil societies will develop strategies to reach a zero-waste future in the context of climate change and to go carbon neutral by 2050.
Transforming the conventional economic pattern based on a linear resource flow of take-make-use-dispose into a circular structure has become a mainstream global goal. Building a circular economy is vital to implement the SDG12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns which calls for achieving sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources and significantly reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
Our economic system designed to extract, use, and throw natural resources away is pushing our planet to the brink, underpinning the climate crisis and contributing to untold human suffering. This Session will comprehensively discuss measures to put a stop to this, discovering other ways.
