This Green Future Session by the Korea Forest Service (KFS) themed “Forests for Global Net-Zero and Peace” will focus on the roles of the forest as a major carbon sink and review the current status of the world’s forestry sector and the KFS’ progress on achieving the goals of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.
The future goals of REDD+ (incentive-offering mechanism for developing countries to reduce carbon emissions) will be announced to meet the targets of 2050 ROK Forestry Strategy for net-zero. Some of the most prime examples and best practices of successful global forestry strategies and projects to promote forest reforestation will be showcased.
Also, as a global venue to strengthen solidarity among 2021 P4G Seoul Summit participants and various international organizations on forestry, the KFS will seek partnership of Peace Forest Initiative (PFI) 2021-2030, a global initiative that facilitates reforestation in countries with degraded lands, jointly launched by the UNCCD and the KFS on September 10, 2019.
