Episode 2: Birth of a New Civilization

The ancient Silk Road has a history of 2,000 years of exchanging civilization. Arirang TV filmed a special documentary about the Iron Silk Road, covering 13 cities in Korea, China, and North Korea, to look back on the past century and to project the future of the next century of Korea. To find out the answers, we will track the historical traces that were left behind by people who traveled the Silk Road, enduring its harsh natural environment.

The Buddhist monk Hyecho’s Wang ocheonchukguk jeon, which is one of the top four overseas travelogues, a journey describing his visit to India by sea and land. General Gao Xianzhi, who introduced the compass and techniques of paper manufacture to western regions. We visited historic sites of the ancient Silk Road. The Silk Road was not just a road for merchants to sell goods. It was the road where the East and West exchanged its culture, creating new civilizations. Furthermore, the East and West found a way to co-exist and develop by exchanging people and culture through the road.

Merchants struggled to cross the ancient Silk Road with camels carrying silk. Now high-speed trains are traveling the road effortlessly. What should the 21st Iron Silk Road look like? Let’s draw the future by looking into the ancient Silk Road 2,000 years ago.
