Three-way talks between South Korea, Japan and China was held in Tokyo, Japan on May 9, offering Seoul a first platform for multilateral diplomacy since the recent inter-Korean summit. The leaders of the three countries pledged joint efforts to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. On the same day, North Korea released three U.S. citizens it had been holding in captivity, while U.S. President Donald Trump thanked South Korean President Moon Jae-in for his help in the release.
