January 21st 2011. A South Korean commercial vessel – the Samho Jewelry -- was hijacked by Somali pirates.
The Cheonghae Unit, deployed to the Gulf of Aden, was responsible for taking back the vessel.
Under cover fire, UDT Seals infiltrated the hijacked vessel, and after five hours, the ship was cleared of pirates.
In the process, eight pirates were killed and five were captured alive.
All 21 South Korean crewmen were rescued.
Since its deployment, the Cheonghae Unit has been a contributor to peace in the region.
