7,009 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday; daily figure surpasses the 7,000 mark for first time in a month Updated: 2022-01-22 13:08:42 KST

South Korea reports seven-thousand and nine new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the daily figure surpassing the seven-thousand mark for the first time in a month.
That means the country's health authorities will now adopt the so-called "quarantine and medical system against Omicron."
Most patients will be treated at home, and the self-quarantine period will be shortened from ten days to a week.
With Saturday's figure, the country's total now stands at over 726-thousand.
