DOKDO DAY Updated: 2021-10-25 17:33:10 KST

Every October 25th, South Korea celebrates "Dokdo Day".

On that day in 1900, Emperor Gojong of the Korean Empire officially announced Korea's jurisdiction over Dokdo Island.

Ever since Korea reclaimed sovereignty of the islets from Japan, Dokdo has been at the center of a dispute between the two nations.

Though Japan insists ownership of "Takeshima", there remains numerous historical, geographical and legal evidence that proves Dokdo is Korean territory.
