Gov't extends current social distancing measures for 2 additional weeks Updated: 2021-10-01 09:59:20 KST

The South Korean government has extended its social distancing measures for an additional two weeks.
The extension kicks in from Monday.
The anti-virus measures have been in place for 12 weeks, but rather than slowing the spread, the spread is quickening, especially over this past week.
For more, Our Kim Do-yeon is at the News Center.
Do-yeon, we expected the extension, but we hear there have been a few tweaks here and there.

That's right Mark, with the two-week extension of the current social distancing levels comes a few changes to details that will allow people to breathe a little bit especially those who have been fully vaccinated.
Take a listen to what Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum had to say earlier.

"We decided that the current COVID-19 conditions were too severe for us to ease the virus prevention measures. However, we would like to help restore a bit of daily life by adjusting some of the prevention standards including weddings, first birthday celebrations and outdoor sports facilities, which many people are voicing pains about, by focusing on those who have completed vaccination."

Specifically weddings will be allowed to have up to 99 people if at least 50 of them are fully vaccinated and for weddings where no food is served, the number will go up to 199 with at least half fully vaccinated.
Outdoors sports activities such as club baseball or soccer will be allowed with the minimum number of players needed.
The Prime Minister added that the country will take steps towards normalcy starting November once more people are fully vaccinated.
The process will be gradual but at the same time authorities will enforce the standing rules strictly to make sure no one is letting their guard down until the end.
But throughout the process he said government's ears will be open to everyone's voice.
