N. Korea convenes Supreme People's Assembly Tuesday without Kim Jong-un: State media Updated: 2021-09-29 06:24:44 KST

Staying with North Korea, the regime's state-run Korean Central News Agency says North Korea on Tuesday convened its annual Supreme People's Assembly.
The assembly is where the ruling Workers' Party tackles internal affairs, including legislation and the state budget.
What's unusual about this assembly is that it's happening so soon.
The previous one was only held some eight months ago, back in January.
It's also worth noting that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was not present.
He was there in 2019 to deliver a speech on inter-Korean affairs and relations the U.S.
Watchers say Kim's decision to skip the assembly means they don't expect any specific message for Seoul or Washington.
