U.S. Department of State seeks complete denuclearization in response to calls to officially end the Korean War Updated: 2021-09-24 20:35:05 KST

The United States has said it is seeking complete denuclearization when asked about President Moon Jae-in's recent declaration regarding ending the Korean War.
In a phone briefing held Wednesday local time, a top official from the U.S. Department of State said Washington is open to dialogue with Pyeongyang to pursue complete denuclearization on the peninsula.
The official refrained from providing an exact position on where the United States stands following President Moon's call for an end to the war at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
Though fighting ceased on the peninsula in 1953, the war has technically continued, as a formal peace treaty was never signed by the two Koreas.
