Top diplomats of S. Korea, Japan meet in New York amid ongoing tensions Updated: 2021-09-24 06:55:54 KST

The top diplomats of South Korea and Japan met in New York Thursday, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Following the talks which lasted less than an hour, Seoul's foreign ministry said Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi had a candid exchange on their future ties.
Chung urged Tokyo to lift its strict export control measures and work to narrow the gaps over their historical rows.
Despite those prickly topics, they agreed to cooperate for regional peace and stability.
