Biden, Xi lay out international agendas at UN General Assembly Updated: 2021-09-22 17:38:24 KST

The Presidents of the U.S. and China each laid out international agendas at the UN General Assembly, but refrained from naming one another directly.
Pledging a (quote) "new era of relentless diplomacy", Joe Biden said America is shifting focus to "consequential" regions like the Indo-Pacific and will oppose attempts by stronger countries to dominate weaker ones.
However he did point out, Washington is not seeking a new Cold War and is open to dialogue with any nation willing to pursue a peaceful solution to shared challenges.
Xi Jinping spent most of his pre-recorded speech preaching multilateralism, highlighting the world is big enough to accommodate common development and progress for all.
He also said (quote)"military intervention from the outside and so-called democratic transformation entails nothing but harm," an apparent reference to the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
