The UK will roll out booster shots to over 50's starting next week with a dose of an mRNA vaccine even if previous doses received were AstraZenca's vaccine.
First, take a listen to a UK health official.
"And as I said it is deployed in the same order as it was deployed in phase one. Hopefully, this would mean that the levels of protection that people have will be highest during the coldest months of the winter."
Authorities also said that vaccines saved 112,000 lives and averted 24 million cases of the disease.
The eligible population for the booster shots stands at over 30 million, and includes over-50s, younger adults with health conditions and frontline health and care workers
This is all part of the country's Plan A ahead of winter with other measures to include encouraging the unvaccinated to get jabbed and offering vaccines to 12 to 15 year olds.
Plan B will be initiated if the National Health Service is under unsustainable pressure and measures will include mandatory vaccine passports for mass events and mandating mask-wearing in public places.
