U.S. President Joe Biden plans to urge world leaders to collectively commit to vaccinating 70-percent of the world's population against COVID-19 within a year.
He's expected to unveil his goal during a vaccine summit next Wednesday.
President Biden plans to host the summit to coincide with the leaders' sessions of the UN General Assembly.
According to an invitation to the summit, the U.S. will call on world leaders to donate one billion additional vaccine doses in addition to the previously announced pledge of 2 billion.
The U.S. will also press nations to boost funding to 3 billion dollars in 2021 and 7 billion dollars in 2022 for (quote) "financing vaccine readiness and administration".
