Chernobyl power plant staff report recent spike in nuclear activity, but now within safe limits Updated: 2021-05-13 09:59:42 KST

Scientists have reported a recent spike in nuclear activity at the Chernobyl power plant, which has been covered since 2016.
The plant's staff say the rise in "nuclear flux density" has since leveled off though and does not pose any threat of an uncontrolled nuclear reaction.
High levels of radiation and damage prevent staff from accessing the chamber but they'll keep monitoring the situation in case it calls for future intervention.
Chernobyl's reactor number four exploded in April 1986, causing the world's worst nuclear accident that killed thousands of people.
