Youn Yuh-jung hoping to win Best Supporting Actress at Oscars for role in 'Minari' Updated: 2021-04-26 05:56:35 KST

The Screen Actors Guild Award is considered by many to be the most accurate prediction of whether or not an actor or actress will win an Oscar in the same category.
At this year's SAG Awards, South Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung won for best female actor in a supporting role, for the film 'Minari'.

"Well, I don't know how to describe my feelings. I'm being recognized by westerners. Oh, it is very, very honored and especially by my actor fellow choose me as a supporting actress."

Over the past ten years, only one actor did not win the corresponding Oscar after winning the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Then there's the British Academy Film Awards, another event that's often seen as a prelude to what's to come at the Oscars.
There,.. Youn also took the Best Supporting Actress honors.

"Since Academy members are mostly actors, winning the Screen Actors Guild Award is very important. As for the British Academy Film Awards, a lot of strength to artistry and workmanship. In that respect, there's a lot of direct connection to the Oscars."

Gold Derby, an Academy Awards prediction site,.. also ranks Youn as the favorite.
According to its online poll,Youn received 4,640 votes,.. beating out Maria Bakalova, Glenn Close and Olivia Coleman by a large margin.
If Youn wins,.. she will become the first Asian actress in 64 years to get an Oscar in an acting category.
But, after becoming the first South Korean to be nominated in an acting category, she will look to be an even bigger part of history, if she takes home the famous gold statue.
