The United States will take part in the UN's upcoming climate action summit despite President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord.
The U.S. State Department released a statement saying that a delegation of environmental officials will attend the COP25 convention in Madrid, which kicks off Monday.
Washington has yet to formalize its decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement, and the State Department said the U.S. will remain part of the pact until next year.
It added that the administration will continue to participate in ongoing climate change negotiations and meetings to "ensure a level playing field that protects U.S. interests."
