U.S. should step in to resolve escalating trade tensions between S. Korea and Japan: Expert Updated: 2019-07-17 05:33:35 KST

The former Asian chief of the U.S. National Security Council has urged President Trump to mediate between Seoul and Tokyo as tensions escalate between the neighbors following Japan's export curbs.
In an op-ed to the Washington Post this week, Evan Medeiros advised Trump to call on the leaders of South Korea and Japan to start dialogue to resolve the issue.
He said Seoul-Tokyo tensions also pose a threat to Washington's alliance network, regional prosperity and the global supply network.
He also explained the spat could cause the U.S. significant economic and diplomatic losses in the long run.
