Cabinet endorses prosecutor-general nominee Yoon Seok-yeol Updated: 2019-06-18 16:25:46 KST

The South Korean Cabinet has endorsed the nomination of Yoon Seok-yeol as the new prosecutor general.
President Moon Jae-in tapped the reformist prosecutor yesterday to take over from Moon Moo-il, who retires next month.
After the president's approval, Yoon's nomination will go to the National Assembly, where a hearing will be held.
However, the president can appoint him without parliamentary approval.
The hearing has to be completed within 20 days after the request is sent, but lawmakers can get another ten days if they need it.
