UK inflation highest since 1982 in July, with CPI rising to 10.1% Updated: 2022-08-18 09:12:50 KST

UK's inflation hit a fresh 40-year-high in July, surpassing analysts' expectations, amid a jump in food and energy prices.

According to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday, consumer price inflation rose to 10.1 percent last month.
This was above a Reuters consensus forecast of 9.8 percent, and up from 9.4 percent in June.
The report said rising food prices was among the leading factors behind the increase in annual inflation rates.
This comes as the Bank of England has already implemented six consecutive interest rate hikes with the aim of bringing down inflation.
