South Korea reported 151,792 new daily COVID-19 infections on Wednesday.
Of the new cases, around 47 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Korea's Disease Control and Prevention Agency said it will closely monitor the situation as increased travel during the summer holiday season is prompting an uptick in infections.
Health authorities are projecting the daily caseload to reach 200-thousand by mid-August.
There were 50 more COVID-related deaths.
Slightly over 400 people are critically ill.
