U.S., Chinese foreign ministers to meet at G20 Updated: 2022-07-06 08:56:31 KST

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday on the sidelines of a G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Bali. The meeting will be the latest high-level contact between U.S. and Chinese officials as some senior U.S. officials have questioned China's alleged neutrality after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The two sides could also discuss U.S. President Biden's plan to possibly lift a narrow set of tariffs on Chinese imports to curb surging inflation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also going to attend the meeting, but he's not expected to sit down with Blinken on the sidelines. G20 member countries are likely to point the finger toward Russia's war on Ukraine for global food shortages while Russia is expected to blame U.S.-led sanctions. The G20 foreign ministers' meeting takes place in Bali on Thursday and Friday ahead of a G20 leaders' summit set for November in Indonesia.
