S. Korea's COVID-19 cases to top 17,000 on Tuesday, highest in 40 days Updated: 2022-07-05 05:45:09 KST

South Korea is on course to post its highest number of COVID-19 infections in forty days -- with some 17-thousand reported as of 9 PM last night.
That's about 3 times the number of cases reported at the same time the previous day, with the figure set to rise once the results of tests done up until midnight are accounted for.
This comes as domesticinfections are slowly picking up again due to waning immunity and increased movement of people.
Though the number of severely-ill patients and the hospital occupancy rate remains at a stable level concerns remain as the summer holidays could fuel the spread further.
