Samsung Electronics topped the global smartphone market last year, replacing Apple.
A report from Counterpoint Research shows smartphone sales of the South Korean tech giant held almost 19 percent of the market share, followed by Apple at around 17 percent.
In terms of annual sales, last year's figure was a record high for Chinese firm Xiaomi.
Xiaomi also enjoyed the biggest growth with 35 percent, while Samsung Electronics came in at point-nine percent, the lowest among the top five firms.
