President Moon attends S. Korea-UAE business roundtable; plans to visit Expo 2020 Dubai Updated: 2022-01-16 14:05:29 KST

President Moon Jae-in began his official schedule today in the United Arab Emirates with a business roundtable on cooperation in the hydrogen sector.
Moon arrived in Dubai on Saturday the first stop on a week-long tour that will also take him to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
With the details, we have our senior Blue House correspondent Kim Min-ji on the line.

President Moon Jae-in on Sunday attended a business roundtable on hydrogen energy cooperation with business leaders of South Korea and the United Arab Emirates to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was aimed at fostering a platform in the private sector for the production and implementation of hydrogen as an energy source.
The UAE, though rich in oil, is taking proactive measures to achieve carbon neutrality and to create new growth engines as first among the OPEC countries to announce goals to to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
It's a goal shared by South Korea, which is heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
The Blue House says the roundtable was significant as the first example of a partnership under which South Korea would import hydrogen produced overseas.
The two sides are expecting to create synergy given the UAE's potential to produce hydrogen, and South Korea's to utilize it.
Moon is on a working visit to the UAE the only country in the Middle East to have established special strategic partnership with South Korea.
It's part of a week-long trip that will also take him to Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Min-ji, What's in store for President Moon for the rest of the day?

Moon will later visit the Expo 2020 Dubai to attend a ceremony for Korea Day.
Another large focus of Moon's trip is to promote South Korea's bid to host the expo held every five years in the southern city of Busan in 2030.
Moon will go full on to highlight the country's efforts and meet with officials attending the event while there.
Moon will also look around the Korean Pavilion under the theme Smart Korea, Moving the World to You which will be playing clips of performances by BTS in front of historical sites in Seoul like Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Moon will also attend a K-pop concert in the evening.
While at the expo today, Moon is also scheduled to sit down for talks with the UAE Prime Minister, who is also the Ruler of Dubai, to discuss bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, climate change and space.
That's all I have for now. Back to you Devin.
