Biden signs executive order for U.S. government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 Updated: 2021-12-09 12:44:23 KST

U.S. President Joe Biden has signed an executive order, directing the federal government to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Under the order signed Wednesday, the government will cut emissions by 65 percent and federal operations will run entirely on carbon-free electricity by the end of the decade.
The order also requires the government to stop buying gas-powered vehicles by 2035 and ensure federal buildings reach net-zero by 2045.
The latest move puts the U.S. in line with global goals to reach carbon neutrality by the middle of the century.
