Pfizer's CEO has said that the Omicron variant spreads much faster than other strains of COVID-19,.. and that it could lead to more mutations in the future.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Albert Bourla emphasized that it "isn't good news to have something that spreads fast", as it could infect billions of people and create more mutations.
However, he also mentioned that the variant does seem to be milder than previous strains.
Pfizer is currently aiming to develop a vaccine targeting Omicron by March next year.
The drugmaker will need another few weeks to determine whether current vaccines are effective against the variant.
