Tensions escalated as top diplomats from the U.S. and Russia met on the sidelines of the OSCE summit on Thursday.
There, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated a demand that Russia withdraw its troops from the Ukrainian border.
Blinken further warned that Moscow would face serious consequences including high-impact economic measures, if it continues to show any more aggression.
Meanwhile, Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, maintained his stance that Ukraine has been posing a threat.
A Russian news agency cited Lavrov as having said to Blinken that if the U.S. draws Ukraine into any of its so-called "geopolitical games", it would respond accordingly.
