A discussion at the National Assembly could determine whether or not K-pop stars BTS have to do mandatory military service.
On Thursday morning, the National Defense Committee's sub-committee started to discuss certain changes to the Military Service Act including exemption rules.
While all able South Korean men have to do military service individuals with esteemed achievements in arts are exempt under the recommendation of the Culture Minister.
But pop artists are not considered in the current rules meaning unless the rules are changed, BTS members would have to face the mandatory service.
If the committee votes to change the act on Friday, it will then go to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, before being voted on in next month's plenary session.
