China announces new rules tightening regulation on celebrities Updated: 2021-11-25 08:32:07 KST

The Cyberspace Administration of China on Tuesday announced fresh regulations that strictly limit what celebrities, their agencies and even their fans can do on social media, as Beijing continues its campaign to discipline pop culture and fan clubs.
The latest measures include a limit on the number of social media accounts celebrities can have, while also banning them from showing off their luxury lifestyle, and restricting posts that show their work and activities.
The CAC also stipulate that entertainment companies should be limited to just one account on each social media platform, while fan club accounts need to be authorized by the agency.
It also banned the act of "whitewashing" a celebrity if he or she has violated the law or engaged in what is considered unethical behavior.
Watchers here in South Korea fear the crackdown could further hamper South Korea's entertainment business in China.
In September,, the Chinese government cracked down on K-pop fandom, a measure the say was necessary for a "healthy" cyberspace environment.
