S. Korea expresses concerns over Japan PM Kishida's push to release Fukushima wastewater into ocean Updated: 2021-10-18 17:01:49 KST

South Korea's foreign ministry has expressed concern over Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's apparent decision to go ahead with a plan to release radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean.
According to Yonhap News, a senior official at the ministry said on Monday that South Korea has voiced serious concern at the health-related and environmental effects it could have, and said that the decision to release the water beginning in 2023 was made without enough consultations with neighboring countries.
Officials also said they will work closely with the international community, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, to monitor the entire process of the wastewater's disposal.
