As was feared, but not really unexpected, the number of COVID-19 infections has surged,

The daily tally is back to the 2,000s, as of 12 a.m. this Wednesday,

With 2,002 of those being domestically-transmitted cases.

This is attributed to fewer people having been screened for the virus from Saturday through Monday, as Korea enjoyed a national holiday, and concerns are mounting over another holiday coming up in the week ahead.
