Moon says both Koreas need to cooperate and prosper together Updated: 2021-10-05 13:39:08 KST

President Moon Jae-in says although unification for the two Koreas could take some time, both South and North can cooperate and prosper together.
He spoke Tuesday at an event for South Korean nationals living overseas saying that their role is important for peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula.

"We have yet to overcome the division. From the point of view of nationals overseas, the division of the two Koreas is a regrettable reality. I ask that you spread the word about the international power that the two Koreas would have as one, and the potential prosperity they would achieve through lasting peace."

Moon's remarks come amid speculation that inter-Korean talks could get back on track following the restoration of communication channels.
The South Korean leader said there is no need for confrontation and that that competition between systems and comparisons of military power are no longer meaningful.
Moon also thanked the Koreans overseas for sending donations and quarantine equipment to South Korea in the COVID-19 crisis.
The event was held in both in-person and offline bringing together some 300 participants.
