In the southwestern part of the country, a new tunnel under the sea to be built in the next few years will cut the travel time between the cities of Yeosu and Namhae from more than an hour down to ten minutes.
The project was confirmed today by the land ministry.
It'll span more than seven kilometers between the two cities, which both jut out right next to each other from the southern coast but are separated by water.
The project is scheduled to be completed within the next five years.
This is part of the land ministry's 5th national road construction plan, which includes 116 projects with a budget of 10 trillion won or over 8 billion dollars.
