South Korea's daily COVID-19 tally for Monday stands at 16-hundred 5.
A slight drop from the day before, when the country reported the highest ever weekend figure.
Authorities raised concerns the numbers could go up with the fast spread of the virus in the greater Seoul area and amid the Chuseok holidays.
Meanwhile, over 71 percent of the population now have received their first vaccine shots.
More than 43 percent have been fully vaccinated.
