On Sunday, the country reported 1,7-hundred-55 new cases, the second highest figure for a Sunday to date.
It was, however, down around 100 cases from the day before.
All but 30 were local transmissions, with more than 70 percent of them in the greater capital area.
As for the social distancing rules, a slightly eased version will take effect on Monday for the upcoming Chuseok holiday, when millions of people will travel to visit family.
From September 13th through the 26th, those visiting nursing homes will be allowed to meet face-to-face with their relative if all parties are vaccinated.
If not, then they'll have to have a protective screen between them.
In terms of vaccines, at least one dose has been given to around 64 percent of the population, and that's expected to reach 70 percent this coming week.
