Nearly one in 10 people in South Korea received their COVID-19 emergency relief funds on the first day of applications on Monday.
The nation's interior minister said so far, over five-million people have received 250-thousand won, or about 215 U.S. dollars. as part of a nearly 9.5 billion dollar cash handout program.
This week, people can apply depending on the last digit of their birth year… with those ending in two and seven eligible to apply today.
Those ending with three and eight can apply Wednesday.
From Saturday until October 29th, those eligible will be able to apply at any time.
The relief funds can be used at traditional markets, supermarkets and restaurants but won't be accepted at department stores, large discount stores and when using delivery apps.
