S. Korea's First Vice FM Choi says N. Korea restarting Yongbyon nuclear complex is not violation of inter-Korean agreement Updated: 2021-09-07 20:21:54 KST

South Korea's First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun says North Korea restarting its nuclear reactor at the Yongbyon nuclear complex is not a violation of inter-Korean agreements forged in 2019.
At a plenary session of the National Assembly's foreign affairs and unification committee on Tuesday, Choi said the North is still complying with the agreements reached through the Panmunjeom Declaration and the Inter-Korean Comprehensive Military Agreement aimed at fostering lowering tensions in the peninsula.
His remarks come despite reports including the International Atomic Energy Agency report revealing that Pyeongyang appears to have restarted its nuclear reactor in Yongbyon complex.
In regards to the U.S. Congress seeking to expand its Five Eyes intelligence sharing program to include South Korea and three others, Choi said the government has not officially reviewed joining the intel-sharing program.
