Pfizer on track for U.S. vaccine boosters on Sept. 20, Moderna not likely, Fauci says Updated: 2021-09-06 09:58:03 KST

According to U.S. infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci on Sunday, Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine is likely to be approved by the FDA for the booster shot, or third dose, before September 20th.
On the other hand, Moderna's vaccine is unlikely to get FDA approval by then.
Fauci added that the booster shots are assumed to be safe, but the experts needed more time to study data.
This comes as the Biden administration said it will start giving out booster shots on September 20th skipping the usual practice of getting FDA approval before making such announcements.
