49.1% of COVID infections in S. Korea over past week have been those 20 to 49 Updated: 2021-08-27 10:44:36 KST

Almost half of the COVID-19 cases in South Korea over the past week were young adults or the middle-aged.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters Thursday, people between 20 to 49 made up more than 49 percent of new infections over the past week.
Infection rates among adults in that age group have been steadily rising since early August.
People in their 20s made up most of the new cases last week, accounting for 19 percent of them.
However, officials noted that younger people are far less likely to get seriously ill or die from the virus.
