COVID-19 antibodies last at least 8 months after infection: Italian study Updated: 2021-05-12 07:46:15 KST

Italian researchers said Tuesday that antibodies against COVID-19, while reducing over time, remained in the blood of most patients for at least eight months following infection.
The study conducted jointly by the San Raffaele hospital and Italy's ISS National Health Institute on one-hundred-62 patients, found antibodies present "regardless of the severity of the illness, the age of the patients or the presence of other pathologies".
Blood samples of survivors were taken in March and April of last year and again in late November.
The study also noted that those who failed to produce antibodies within the first fifteen days of contracting the virus are at greater risk of suffering from severe symptoms.
