U.S. President Joe Biden has signed an executive order aimed at expanding voting rights.
The order marks the 56th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday", an incident that led to the passage of the act on voting rights.
In a pre-recorded video message, Biden said the order will provide improved access to voting, adding that eligible voters should be able to vote and have that vote counted.
The order directs federal agencies to develop a strategic plan to promote voter registration and participation.
It also aims to expand access to voting among active-duty members of the military as well as to all eligible prisoners.
