On the day of U.S. President Joe Biden's inauguration, Chinese authorities have slapped sanctions on 28 former Trump administration officials, including outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Beijing's foreign ministry elaborated that the measures comes as they have seriously violated China's sovereignty.
It also added that the sanctioned former officials and their family members would be prohibited from entering mainland China as well as Hong Kong and Macau, and companies and institutions associated with them would also be restricted from doing business with China.
