South Korea's exports and production of rechargeable batteries and demand for them rose in 2020 from the year before thanks to growth in the global market for electric vehicles.
The ministry of industry says exports were up for the fifth consecutive year, up almost three percent to around 6.6 billion U.S. dollars.
Production was 20 percent higher, and domestic demand was up 11.6 percent.
The combined global market share of the nation's three main producers SK Energy Solution, Samsung SDI and SK Innovation rose to 34 percent as of November, a more than two-fold increase from 2019.
