S. Korean Vice FM returns from Iran after "little progress" made on ship's seizure Updated: 2021-01-14 17:57:31 KST

Seoul's First Vice Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun is back from talks in Iran, and arriving, he told reporters there was little progress made in securing the release of the South Korean vessel that Iran recently seized.
But he said he still expects that Iran will release the ship and its crew promptly, and he will work to restore Seoul's relationship with Tehran to what it was before the recent strains.
Choi said he made his case sternly to the Iranian officials and listened respectfully to their own frustrations.
Iran has been complaining about the freezing of its assets in South Korea due to the U.S. sanctions, while insisting that the ship was seized only because it was polluting the sea, a claim for which it has given no proof.
